Since being recognized as an Immigrants Association in 2008, BYP has strengthened its work with the immigrant community in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area thus reaffirming itself as a reference for the way it helps to integrate immigrants and their descendents, who have always composed the majority of BYP’s members and beneficiaries.
With this in mind, the Association created an Immigrant Support Office where it offers the following free services:
- Free support to regularize and renew legal documents;
- Awareness raising initiatives about immigrant rights and duties;
- Free activities for the communities to promote the integration of immigrants and their families.
In 2013, BYP was the first entity in the Oeiras Municipality to acquire the status of Cabo Verde Citizen House, as recognized and conceded by the government of Cabo Verde.
Between 2009 and 2011, BYP also promoted immigrant entrepreneurship in Caxias by organizing free training sessions on entrepreneurship and inviting specialists to personally consult on businesses created by the trainees. With this initiative, BYP was able to involve more than 40 trainees and helped to develop many projects in the community.
